Whirlwind by Whirl Audio Quick Start Guide
Step 1: Create your Roon account
Your Whirlwind comes with a 60-day Roon subscription for free. In the box, you’ll find a card
with information about your complimentary subscription. Please find the coupon code on the
back of the card.
To create your account, use the web browser on your computer or mobile device to visit the
following page: https://roonlabs.com/coupon
NOTE: To use the Whirlwind you will need a Roon account with a valid subscription.
Step 2: Unbox your Whirlwind
In the box, you’ll find everything you need to get going with your Whirlwind and Roon. Please
take a moment to familiarize yourself with what’s included.

Step 3: Plug in & turn on
Before you begin, it is important to get all of your equipment connected and powered up.
Connect the power cable to your Whirlwind and plug it in. Use an ethernet cable to connect
Whirlwind to your router or switch.
The Whirlwind has the following built in outputs:
4 x RCA analog (outputs)
4 x Optical S/PDIF Outputs
4 x Coaxial S/PDIF Outputs
Connect the outputs to your amplifiers, receivers, DACs etc.
NOTE: The Whirlwind supports an optional 2.5” SSD that can be installed, in the drive bay, at
the front of the unit. This is required for local music storage such as FLAC files.

Step 4: Get control
The Roon Remote app (iOS & Android) and Roon (Mac and Windows) are used to set up and
control your Whirlwind. Download them for the phones, tablets, and computers you want to use
with your Whirlwind.

Using the Roon or Roon Remote app, connect to your Whirlwind and log in using the email
address and password for your Roon account.
Step 5: Set up
The first time you use your Whirlwind, Roon will take you through several steps to get your
system configured. This process usually takes just a few minutes.
In order to build your personalized music database, Roon needs to find your music files. Roon
asks where your music files are stored. You can add as many folders on different devices as
you like.
A subscription to TIDAL or Qobuz gives you access to millions of lossless and high resolution
tracks. Roon helps you find the ones you’ll love.

Roon automatically finds the audio audio devices you connected in Step 3. Choose all the ones
you plan to use for listening. Roon finds all your audio devices connected to Whirlwind via
Analog, SPDIF, ethernet, and WiFi. Just enable the devices you want to use as zones.
NOTE: Don’t worry if you’re not exactly sure about any of these settings. The defaults are
usually the best and you can always change them later.
