Are you ready for mask making fun?
This complete set includes everything you
need to make and decorate 5 fun masks.
Start by building up your masks with specially
formulated plaster wrap - it hardens like magic
when placed in water! Then use paint, glitter glue,
tissue paper, feathers and rhinestones to transform
your masks into one-of-a-kind creative creations.
Before You Begin
Let’s Get Started
Note to Parents - Younger children may need additional help and
supervision during this activity.
Select a work area where you can leave your masks to dry overnight.
Wear an old shirt and cover your work area with newspapers. You
will need an old bucket or small plastic bowl and some warm water.
Have a few paper towels handy for quick clean up.
1. Place the plastic work mat over your newspapers and put on your
disposable craft gloves.
2. Grab a roll of the plaster wrap and your scissors. Begin cutting
your plaster wrap into 1, 2 and 3 inch pieces. Important, keep
dry strips away from water!
3. With adult assistance, fill your bowl or bucket with warm water.
4. Set your large plastic mask base face up on your work surface.
Set aside your half mask to use later.
Even More Masks!
Play or Display?
Once you have used up all of your plaster wrap, use the leftover craft materials to
decorate the plastic mask bases. Be sure the paint is dry before adding any of the
extra craft materials.
Your finished masks are fun to wear and fun to display. Here are some
mask ideas:
More Ideas: Clown, skeleton, witch, puppy, vampire. the possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
Robot
Bird
Tiger
Rainbow
Mexican Wrestler
Flower
Super Hero
Butterfly
Zebra
Cheetah
Lion
Kitty
Sensitive Skin Warning - If you experience any redness
or skin irritation, discontinue wearing the masks.
7. Before the plaster has dried, use the plastic
needle included in your kit to poke holes in the
nose and mouth areas as needed. Be sure to
make them large enough so you can easily
breath when wearing the masks.
8. Poke a hole on each side of your mask just below the
eyes. You will tie on the elastic cord once the mask has
dried. Do not place the holes too close to the edges or
they may tear through when you wear it.
As the plaster sets it will start to get warm, and begin to harden like magic. Set it on a clean spot on your work mat
to dry overnight.
6. As you work around the eyes and the edges of the mask, fold the plaster wrap back on itself, smoothing as you
go. Do not fold the plaster wrap over the edges of the plastic mask or you will not be able to remove the
plaster when it is dry.
Decorating Your Mask
1. Once your mask is completely dry, gently remove it from the plastic base. Set the base aside – you will use it
again later to make more masks.
2. Use the sandpaper included to gently smooth out any rough edges. You can also use your scissors to trim frayed
edges. Be sure to clean up any plaster dust and debris before you begin painting.
3. Use the foam brush to add a coat of white paint to both sides of your mask.
4. Think about how you want to decorate your mask. You can sketch out a few ideas on paper first, look at the box
for inspiration, or lightly sketch your design directly on your mask with a pencil.
5. Use the paints, feathers, rhinestones, ribbons, tissue
paper and glitter gel to come up with your own
amazing mask creations. Make a favorite animal, a
super-hero or a fun Mardi Gras mask. Remember,
there is no right or wrong way to decorate your
mask, just be creative and have fun.
Tie the end of the elastic through one hole and knot.
Thread the elastic through the other hole and then put
the mask on. Decide how tight you want the mask to be.
Adjust the elastic, tie it into a knot and then trim the extra
elastic with your scissors.
Follow the steps on the previous page for making your half mask.
You should be able to make several of the smaller masks using one
roll of plaster wrap.
Use the leftover plaster strips to add fun features like ears, horns, bumps,
eyebrows – anything you can dream up. To make larger features, scrunch up
paper towel pieces and then cover over them completely with the plaster.
Be sure you connect them to the mask with the plaster wrap.

5. Dip one piece of plaster wrap into the water at a time. Pull it between your fingers to remove any excess water as
needed. Place it over your mask base smoothing out any wrinkles as you go. For best results, start in the center
and then work your way out. Note - plaster should be quickly dipped and then removed. Leaving it in the
water for too long will wash away the plaster.
Continue layering the plaster wrap over your mask. The more layers you build up, the thicker it will be, but do not
use more than 3 layers or you won’t have enough plaster to complete all of your masks.
Wearing your Mask
If you are having trouble threading the elastic through the holes, use the
plastic needle to help you.
Safety First - When wearing your mask, be sure that you
can see clearly and your breathing is not obstructed. If
you experience any skin irritation, remove the mask and
use it for display instead.
Making the Smaller Mask
Adding Depth and Dimension
Once your mask is dry and decorated, use the hook and loop tape to add the clear plastic handle to the side of your
mask. Add a few ribbons too. If you need an extra strong bond, use some of your craft glue to help hold it in place.
